| D-Fence February 28, 2012 by Moe Diggity Second game back and I'm coming to the realization that there are no longer sixteen guys named Moe on the squad. There's eleven, maybe twelve, tops. It's already known that Moe Latio and Moe Kirks are done for the season. Then there's our goalie, Moe Puck, who finally got hired (after months of searching for work) so driving in from London is now, all of a sudden, a problem. He can't make the early games because he finishes work at 5pm and it takes him two-and-a-half hours to get to the game. And he won't make the late games because he has to get up early in the morning and it takes him two-and-a-half hours to get home. So, essentially, the earliest game he can make is an 8 o'clock start and the latest game he can make is an 8 o'clock start. I think we've seen the last of Moe Puck. And, finally, there's the other recurring absentee, Moe Foe, who people just hope doesn't show up. Fortunately for us, he's been obliging as of late. Oh, shoot. Was I supposed to call him to tell him this to his face... Over the phone? Anyways, we're at eleven skaters on this night, which, when you're trying to set lines, is an odd number. Let alone a primary one. |

My one game winning streak as Team GM matches or beats any other GM's record over the last two months so I figure I have nothing to lose and decide to get creative. Three defensemen, two centres and three sets of wingers are on tap. Oh, and let's give Moe Zus another crack at forward. Apparently the game in which he self-appointed himself as a forward was a disaster but, since I wasn't there to see it, I go with it anyways. Also, let's put our biggest offensive threat and points leader in the last three seasons he's played, Moe Kalpakis, back on defense. Moe J. Simpson sits across from me as I announce the lines and I can't tell if the look I'm getting from him is a look of "You're effin' crazy" or a look of "I'm gonna go 'mass murderer' on your ass". It was probably just gas. I am a firm believer that the best offense is a good defense. Or is it the other way around? The best defense is a good offense? |
| Regardless, defense is key for the Moes and our three workhorses of Moe Kalpakis, Moe Terboat and Moe Ped did a stellar job in keeping the shots that Ka-kaaww faced at a minimum. Ka-kaaww did the rest by stopping everything else that got through and earned his first shutout of the season. There are two regular season games left and it's a Friday game next week. Let's keep the Moe Mentum going into playoffs. Score: Moes 3 - Mighty Spitfires 0 Quote of the Week: "Stop saying shit behind my back! If you've got something to say to me, here's my number. Call me and say it to my face... over the phone." - Moe Bailey rehashing Moe Foe's email message from last week. Milestones: Moe Kalpakis played in his 50th career game as a Moe. Moe Bailey moved into 3rd in career games played (368). |
